A Fish Buyers' Wharf

This conversation is connected to A Fish Buyers' Wharf.

Fishing boats crowd a wharf, their masts and rigging crisscrossing against a pale gray-blue sky. A tall brown-sailed vessel dominates the right side, with smaller boats in green, yellow, and blue moored alongside. The water below is painted in quick, broken strokes of blue and white, catching reflected light. Buildings and rooflines are visible behind the boats, the whole scene compressed into a dense tangle of wood, canvas, and rope. Vincent was an American painter who worked in Rockport and Gloucester, Massachusetts, part of the Cape Ann art colony that included several generations of marine and harbor painters.
