Adam and Eve
This conversation is connected to Adam and Eve.
Two nude figures stand against a flat black background on a narrow strip of dark green ground. Adam is seen from behind at the left, his body painted in warm golden tones. Eve faces the viewer at the right, pale-skinned with dark red hair, one hand on her hip. Between them, a large blue-black serpent coils up from the ground and wraps around Eve's arm, its head holding a bright red apple that Eve extends toward Adam's outstretched hand. The composition is symmetrical and theatrical. Stuck painted multiple versions of Adam and Eve throughout his career. Oil on canvas, signed lower right, circa 1920.
