Bildnis eines Asiaten
This conversation is connected to Bildnis eines Asiaten.
Klee made Bildnis eines Asiaten in 1924, during his years teaching at the Bauhaus. A mask-like face floats against a flat cobalt blue ground, built from fine crosshatched lines in green, red-brown, and blue, with a yellow-green cap tilting to one side. He kept meticulous records of his work — by the time he died in 1940, his personal catalogue listed over nine thousand pieces. The Nazis dismissed him from his teaching position in 1933 and included his work in the Degenerate Art exhibition in 1937.
