Bird Motif Composition (detail)
This conversation is connected to Bird Motif Composition (detail).
A strictly non-objective, geometric composition constructed entirely of flat planes of color and recurring circular motifs. The rectangular grid is filled with solid blocks of deep red, muted purple, black, pale grey, and light blue. Across these horizontal bands, Sophie Taeuber-Arp introduces a repeating pattern of white semi-circles intersected by straight white lines—a highly abstracted interpretation of bird forms. As a pioneer of concrete art and a central figure of the Dada movement, Taeuber-Arp rejected traditional representation. In this piece, she utilizes the principles of textile design and architecture, creating a precise, rhythmic balance of color and pure geometric form. Gouache on paper.
