Evening, Sun Setting behind Arenig Fach

This conversation is connected to Evening, Sun Setting behind Arenig Fach.

A vibrant, highly saturated landscape dominated by the distinct silhouette of a dark brown mountain peak. The terrain in the foreground and midground is constructed through rapid, unblended sweeps of vivid green, yellow, deep purple, and blue. Above the mountain, a brilliant yellow sky is heavily textured with thick, pinkish-purple impasto clouds. The Welsh artist James Dickson Innes frequently painted the Arenig mountains in North Wales, utilizing a vivid, post-impressionist palette inspired by the Fauves. Working quickly on small wooden panels en plein air, Innes prioritized intense, arbitrary color and bold, rhythmic brushwork over literal realism to capture the fleeting, emotional impact of the sunset.
