Gouache and metallic paint on paper. A strictly non-objective, geometric composition structured on a rigid vertical and horizontal grid. The space is divided into rectangular color blocks of deep blue, brick red, ochre, and black. Overlaid across these fields are interlocking, stepped, maze-like lines and floating semi-circles, some rendered in reflective gold or silver paint. A pioneer of the Dada and Concrete art movements, Sophie Taeuber-Arp systematically erased the boundary between fine art and applied design. This piece showcases her use of orthogonal geometry and pure color balance to create a dynamic, rhythmic visual puzzle free of real-world reference.
