Flamingos

This conversation is connected to Flamingos.

Two simplified, earth-toned figures sit closely together on a low perch in the center of a shallow body of water, surrounded by a flock of slender, abstracted flamingos. The birds are painted with quick, almost calligraphic loops of white and pale grey, their elegant necks and spindly legs reflecting in the choppy water below. The overall palette is highly restrained, dominated by cool greys, muddy greens, and muted browns that flatten the depth of the scene. Altherr, whose work was frequently exhibited at the Kunsthaus Zürich, was particularly celebrated for his evocative animal paintings. By treating both the human subjects and the wildlife with the same loose, structural brushwork, he seamlessly merges them into a quiet, cohesive natural environment.
