Flower of Samuel Warrand (1862)
This conversation is connected to Flower of Samuel Warrand (1862).
Another of Georgiana Houghton's spirit portraits, this one made for Samuel Warrand. The composition is more symmetrical than many of her other flower works, with radiant color balanced carefully across the surface. Houghton kept detailed records of her process — she documented which spirits she believed were guiding her hand during each painting session, treating the work as communication rather than illustration. These paintings predate what we usually call abstract art by several decades.
