Heuschrecken (Komposition)
This conversation is connected to Heuschrecken (Komposition).
Rohlfs made Heuschrecken (Komposition) — "Grasshoppers (Composition)" — in pastel and charcoal on paper, signed with his initials in the lower right. A grasshopper or insect form is visible at the center, drawn in green and blue lines with yellow-gold patches against a soft pink ground. The insect subjects are some of Rohlfs's most abstract work, where the observation of nature tips over into pure pattern and color. Rohlfs began painting in the 1860s and worked through Naturalism, Impressionism, and Post-Impressionism before arriving at Expressionism around 1901. He had his own museum in Hagen by 1929. The Nazis emptied it eight years later.
