In the Manner of a Leather Tapestry
This conversation is connected to In the Manner of a Leather Tapestry.
Paul Klee made In the Manner of a Leather Tapestry in 1925, while teaching at the Bauhaus — where the boundaries between fine art, craft, and design were being deliberately blurred. Klee was deeply interested in textiles and taught in the weaving workshop, and you can see it here. The composition is built on a grid-like structure layered with symbols and irregular markings in earthy, muted tones. It looks woven as much as painted.
