Jardin au Bord de la Seine

This conversation is connected to Jardin au Bord de la Seine.

Jardin au Bord de la Seine looks across a sloping garden toward a river bend, with distant hills rising beyond. In the foreground, tall yellow primrose stalks rise against the green grass, with a slender bare tree extending up through the center of the composition. Gold-yellow buttercups fill the lower left. The color is stranger and more acidic than Bonnard's southern garden paintings — the primrose yellows are almost neon, and the sky is a chalky silver-blue. The foliage in the middle ground is dark and dense. Bonnard's signature is in the lower right.
