Kentucky Sun Quilt

This conversation is connected to Kentucky Sun Quilt.

A detail from the Kentucky Sun Quilt, circa 1880, piecework in homespun fabric. Radiating wedges of red, orange, rust, teal, light blue, and brown extend from a small gold-orange center circle — a sunburst pattern pieced improvisationally, with wedges varying in width and angle and fabrics shifting between solids and woven stripes. The quilt includes both hand and machine work. It was made by a member of the Miller family of Russell County, Kentucky, previously attributed to Nancy (Miller) Grider (1883–1960), though it may have been made by her mother, Nancy (Bryant) Miller (1837–1913). It was discovered in the early 1980s during the Kentucky Quilt Project, a statewide documentation effort that surveyed thousands of quilts across Kentucky.

Note: This print is produced full bleed on a neutral background, showing the complete textile and its edges. Matted framing is not available for this piece.
