Kevad
This conversation is connected to Kevad.
Lola Liivat painted Kevad (Spring) in 1959, two years after she began working in an abstract mode. A narrow creek winds through dead brown grass toward a wall of dark conifers, with patches of snow still in the field to the left and a flat gray-green sky above. Two bare trees stand at the bank, their dark trunks and branches reflected in the water alongside a streak of blue sky. The brushwork throughout is loose and direct, with the texture of the canvas visible under the paint.
