Fields of Diélette
This conversation is connected to Fields of Diélette.
Alphonse Osbert was a French Symbolist painter working at the end of the nineteenth century, part of a circle that included Puvis de Chavannes and Sérusier. Fields of Diélette (Manche) shows the Normandy coastline — low hills rolling across the horizon, dotted with pale sheep, tall grasses layered in soft greens and golds. Osbert painted landscapes the way the Symbolists wrote poetry, with more interest in mood than in the specifics of the place. Everything here is quiet and slightly blurred, the sky hanging low over the fields.
