Mademoiselle Suzanne Poirson
This conversation is connected to Mademoiselle Suzanne Poirson.
Sargent painted Mademoiselle Suzanne Poirson in 1884, the same year as Le Verre de Porto and the same year his Portrait of Madame X caused a scandal at the Paris Salon that effectively ended his career in France. This portrait is smaller and more private — Suzanne Poirson was the daughter of a friend. She looks down and slightly away, wearing a black fur-collared coat over a white blouse with a vivid red bow at the throat, all set against a deep crimson background. Sargent signed and dated it in red paint in the upper left corner. The painting is now in a private collection.
