Man's Face
This conversation is connected to Man's Face.
Weisz-Kubínčan painted Man's Face sometime between 1927 and 1937, oil on raw burlap. The face is fractured into angular planes of green, black, blue, and ochre, outlined in thick dark lines, with the burlap weave showing through everywhere. The composition is framed by a heavy black border, almost like a window or a mask. Weisz-Kubínčan trained in Budapest and Berlin where he encountered German Expressionism directly, and the influence is visible here — the Cubist fragmentation combined with Expressionist intensity. He signed it with his initials in the lower left.
