Normandy Landscape

This conversation is connected to Normandy Landscape.

A garden in spring with large trees in saturated greens and teals dominate the center, with pink and white blossoming trees visible at the edges. A white building or wall appears at the far left. The foreground is a dense patchwork of greens, yellows, oranges, and small blue-white marks suggesting flowers or dappled light. The sky is a shimmering pale field of lavender, pink, yellow, and white, painted in small broken strokes. The whole surface vibrates: Bonnard's late landscapes dissolve the distinction between solid and light, foreground and background, until the entire canvas becomes a field of color. He bought a house called Ma Roulotte in Vernonnet, Normandy, in 1912, and painted the garden and surrounding landscape for decades. Oil on canvas.
