Nu à la Fenêtre
This conversation is connected to Nu à la Fenêtre.
Matisse painted Nu à la Fenêtre in 1929, signed and dated in the lower left. A nude woman stands in an interior beside a tall window that opens onto a Mediterranean balcony — the Promenade des Anglais in Nice is visible through the blue-framed glass, with teal water, pink buildings, and a palm tree. The room is filled with pattern: a red and blue floral carpet, a green latticed screen, a wicker chair. Matisse had been living and working in Nice since 1917, and the interiors he painted there — women in rooms full of light and textiles and open windows — became the defining subject of the 1920s and 1930s. He signed his name with the date beneath it.
