Nu au chat, allongé sur une draperie à fleurs

This conversation is connected to Nu au chat, allongé sur une draperie à fleurs.

Suzanne Valadon painted Nu au chat in 1920. A nude woman reclines on a dark floral textile — roses in red, green, and blue on a black ground — propped on one elbow, her auburn hair loose behind her. An orange tabby cat sits at her feet, staring directly out of the painting. Behind them, a patterned kilim or carpet hangs on the wall in reds, greens, and golds, and a striped textile is draped at the upper left. A blue vase of pink flowers sits beside her head. The body is painted with Valadon's characteristic heavy outlines and flat, warm flesh tones. The textiles are as densely painted as the figure, with two different patterns both competing for attention. Valadon's signature and the date 1920 are at the right.
