Nu au fauteuil
This conversation is connected to Nu au fauteuil.
A nude woman sits in a dark upholstered armchair, one arm resting on the chair back, her legs crossed. The wall behind her is a large field of pale cream and ochre, with a window or door frame at the right edge in gray-blue. The floor and lower portion of the painting are dark — brown, olive, near-black. The figure is painted in muted flesh tones with almost no modeling, her features barely indicated. The whole surface has a dry, matte quality. Like the Nu étendu sur un canapé, this belongs to Vuillard's uncommon nude subjects from the early 1900s, painted with the same flattened, tonal approach he used for everything else.
