Nu étendu sur un canapé

A nude woman reclines across a canapé, her body turned slightly toward the viewer, one arm draped behind her head. The painting is built from broken strokes of blue, olive, pink, and ochre — the flesh tones are cool and muted, the couch and cushions a patchwork of dark green, yellow-green, and floral red. A dark blue fabric pools at the lower right. The background is loosely indicated: vertical lines suggesting the edge of a screen or wall, a flash of green at the upper right. Vuillard was a founding member of Les Nabis and is best known for his intimiste interiors. The nudes are rarer in his output and tend to come from around 1900–1910, when he was shifting from the flat Nabi style toward a looser, more painterly approach.
