Nude, leaning

This conversation is connected to Nude, leaning.

Jan Rembowski was a Polish painter working in the early twentieth century, when the academic nude was still a rite of passage. This one skips the formality. The figure folds forward, weight shifting through bent legs and a reaching arm, flesh rendered in broad planes of pink and ochre against a nonexistent background. The whole body is working just to stay upright.
