Nude on a Blanket with a Red Floral Pattern
This conversation is connected to Nude on a Blanket with a Red Floral Pattern.
Édouard Vuillard was a founding member of Les Nabis alongside Bonnard, Denis, and Sérusier — the group of post-Impressionists who took their name from the Hebrew word for "prophets." This early nude dates to around 1888, before the Nabis formed. A woman sits on a blanket with red floral patterning, her back partially turned, her dark hair pinned up. The room behind her is deep brown and umber, with a doorway or screen at left. The paint is thin and matte, with the canvas showing through in places. Vuillard's red signature is in the lower right corner.
