Olympia

This conversation is connected to Olympia.

Ciągliński visited Greece in 1905 and painted this view of the landscape at Olympia — the site of the ancient games. A dark, heavily painted rocky outcrop rises at center-left, with brown and ochre terrain stretching out toward distant blue hills under a pale pink sky. A yellow-white sun or moon sits low on the right. The paint is thick and fast, applied in visible directional strokes, with the texture of the board showing through in the sky. It has the scale and speed of a plein air study.
