Pégase

Odilon Redon spent his early career working in charcoal and black before turning almost entirely to color in his later years. He painted Pegasus several times, and this is one of the quietest versions — the winged horse rises from a field of glowing reds and golds, barely outlined against a sky washed in soft blues and pinks. Flowers blur into atmosphere, the horizon dissolves, and the whole composition drifts between landscape and something closer to memory.
