Porteuse de Vase

This conversation is connected to Porteuse de Vase.

Porteuse de Vase is from 1928, one of a series of six collages. A geometric figure in bright red holds a vase, with a cross-shaped face in ochre and two white circular eyes. A zigzag crown of yellow and orange triangles sits above. The background is black with geometric patterned borders in reds, pinks, and mauves at left. It draws on ancient classical imagery reduced to pure geometry — the figure is both abstract and immediately recognizable as a person carrying something.
