River Landscape

This conversation is connected to River Landscape.

Another painting from Ciągliński's 1907 trip to India. A wide river or estuary curves through the center of the composition in pale blues and lavenders, with sandy banks and a low treeline in the distance. The sky takes up more than half the canvas — a flat wash of dusty pink and mauve. The paint is thin, barely covering the canvas weave, and the whole image has the bleached, hazy quality of tropical light.
