Route en forêt
This conversation is connected to Route en forêt.
Raoul Dufy painted Route en forêt around 1930, during a period when he was working across painting, textile design, and large-scale decorative commissions simultaneously. A path leads between rows of thick-trunked trees, the entire composition saturated in green — emerald, teal, olive, all layered over and into each other. Dufy once said that blue was the only color that maintained its character across all its tones; here he seems to be testing whether green could do the same thing. The trees are drawn in fast, calligraphic strokes over the color, his signature stenographic technique where line and wash operate independently of each other.
