Rye Sheaves in the Field

This conversation is connected to Rye Sheaves in the Field.

Zdzisław Jasiński was a Polish painter trained in Warsaw, Kraków, and Munich, who started in the academic tradition before loosening into something more impressionistic later in his career. Rye Sheaves in the Field is a study for a larger triptych called "Bread," painted in 1908 during the years he was living on an estate near Przyłęk. Three bundled sheaves sit in the foreground, painted in quick, dry strokes of ochre and gold against a flat stretch of green field, with a dark treeline and pale sky behind. It has the unfinished quality of a study — the canvas texture showing through, the composition simple and close.
