Sailing on a Stormy Sea

This conversation is connected to Sailing on a Stormy Sea.

A sailboat rides high on a massive wave, its dark hull tipped back and its sail pale against the churning sky. The sea is painted in thick, swirling strokes of deep teal, emerald, and white, the waves steep and glassy with dark green troughs. The sky above is gray-blue and pink with heavy clouds, the whole surface alive with movement. Bischoff was an Austrian-born painter who emigrated to the United States and became known for his ceramic painting and California plein-air landscapes. His seascapes are less well known but painted with the same bold, loaded brushwork he brought to everything else.
