A white plaster sculpture of a nude stands on a pedestal, seen from a slightly elevated angle. The figure is painted almost entirely in white and pale gray, with dark outlines defining the contours of the body against a background of sage green, olive, and touches of red and gold. The setting is loosely indicated — a studio or gallery interior. The paint is thin and washy, applied quickly. Vuillard drew and painted plaster casts and sculptures throughout his career, beginning with his student drawings at the Lycée Condorcet and the Académie Julian, where copying classical casts was standard academic training.
