A wildflower meadow fills the foreground with yellow, white, pink, and blue blooms scattered through dry golden grass, and a single tall thistle rising at center. Behind it, the land flattens out into a distant band of green and gray, then a thin strip of golden-brown earth at the horizon, and a pale blue sky with a few small pink clouds. The paint is applied in quick, dry strokes with the panel surface visible beneath them. Stanisławski studied mathematics at Warsaw University before switching to painting, trained in Paris under Carolus-Duran, and was deeply influenced by Monet. He's considered the founder of modern landscape painting in Poland.
