Still Life with Meat, Fish, Vegetables, and Fruit

This conversation is connected to Still Life with Meat, Fish, Vegetables, and Fruit.

A table covered in a pale blue-gray cloth is spread with food: a large basket overflowing with artichokes, asparagus, plums, peaches, cherries, and a pink flower; a dark plate with a cut of ham showing pink flesh and white fat; a plate of chicken legs; a scored red mullet on a red plate; butter curls on a blue-and-white Wanli porcelain dish; a small blue-and-white cup of raspberries; a salmon steak on another porcelain dish; bread rolls; a halved lemon; loose cherries; red and green grapes; and a cherry branch with leaves extending across the upper right. A butterfly sits on the grapes. The background is dark brown — everything is lit from the left, and the detail is meticulous across the entire surface. Van Hulsdonck was a Flemish still life painter based in Antwerp, admitted as a master to the Guild of Saint Luke in 1608. Only about 100 paintings are attributed to him; the level of detail explains the low output.
