Sunday Stroll (Yellow Dresses) I

This conversation is connected to Sunday Stroll (Yellow Dresses) I.

A woman in a long yellow dress stands in profile among thin black-outlined trees, holding a bowl or basket. The ground is a flat field of muted sage green, with scattered yellow and red marks suggesting wildflowers. Large leaves in the lower left corner are drawn in dark outlines against the green. Sérusier co-founded Les Nabis in 1888 after meeting Gauguin at Pont-Aven, and the influence is visible here: flat planes of color, strong dark contours, figures treated as decorative elements within the landscape. The Japanese print influence that ran through the Nabi circle is particularly strong in the branch and leaf drawing.
