Tempest (1925)
This conversation is connected to Tempest (1925).
This is a very different Jasiński from his previous works. Tempest was painted in 1925, seven years before his death, and the original is enormous — over eight feet tall, now in the National Museum in Warsaw. Horses and riders emerge from a mass of storm clouds, barely distinguishable from the sky itself, while below a flat landscape stretches out under lightning. Jasiński spent much of his career painting murals and ceiling frescoes in Warsaw, St. Petersburg, and Moscow, and you can feel that scale here. The whole upper half of the canvas is sky, and the figures inside it are painted with the same broad, churning brushwork as the clouds around them.
