The Birth of Eve

This conversation is connected to The Birth of Eve.

In an overflowing garden, Adam lies asleep in the foreground on a bed of green grass and bright red and yellow flowers. Above him, the pale, nude figure of Eve rises upward, reaching her arms toward a towering angelic presence clad in flowing white, pink, and orange robes. The background is a dense, decorative pattern of oversized blue hydrangeas and white daisies, leading to a flat band of blue water at the very top of the composition. Denis masterfully merges biblical narrative with his signature decorative aesthetic, using flattened space, rich botanical patterning, and harmonious pastel colors to create a vision of an earthly paradise. Oil on canvas.
