Trois nymphes se baignant

This conversation is connected to Trois nymphes se baignant.

Three small nude figures in a dark green landscape — one crouching at the water's edge at the left, one standing or wading at center, and a third seated at the right holding what appears to be white drapery. The landscape dwarfs them — large, sweeping tree forms in dark green, olive, and black fill the upper two-thirds of the composition, with a band of golden-yellow sky or distant field visible between the foliage. The figures are painted quickly in warm flesh tones, barely detailed. Derain returned to the bather-in-a-landscape subject throughout his career, drawing on a tradition running from Giorgione through Poussin and Cézanne.
