Untitled (Horse)

Olga Rozanova made this linocut or woodcut around 1913–14, during her Cubo-Futurist period. A rearing horse is built from fast, jagged black strokes on cream paper — the body fragmented into angular planes, the mane a dark mass at the top, the legs splayed in motion below. The ink is unevenly printed, with areas of heavy black and areas where the block barely touched the paper.
