Vénus récréée par la musique

This conversation is connected to Vénus récréée par la musique.

Watercolor and ink on paper, inscribed "Le Prado Août 1949 R.D." at the bottom. This is Dufy's interpretation of Titian's Venus with an Organist and Cupid at the Prado — a reclining nude with a musician at an organ — redrawn in his own rapid, calligraphic line. The nude reclines at the right, sketched in fluid brown ink with minimal color. The musician sits at the left in profile, with a small organ or instrument suggested by vertical teal lines. The whole composition is open and airy, with large areas of bare paper and thin washes of green, brown, and cream. Dufy made numerous studies after Old Masters in museums throughout his career, treating them as raw material for his own line.
